At Kósmo Atelier, we aim to create jewelry that feels thoughtful, long-lasting, and
personal. To do that, we choose our materials carefully and work closely with
skilled workshops to bring each design to life.

Materials: (Heavy) Gold Plated or Gold Vermeil

(Heavy) Gold Plated
Gold plated pieces have a thin layer of gold applied over a base metal such as
sterling silver 925, brass or stainless steel. At Kósmo Atelier we only work
with a base of sterling silver (925). The gold layer is generally quite light
(± 0.5 micron), which makes these pieces more accessible in price. The (gold
plated) finish may wear off over time, especially on items that experience
frequent contact with for instance water, sweat, sun and so on.

Heavy gold plated pieces have a layer of gold between 0.5 micron - 1.0 micron,
this is thicker than regular gold plated items, which is better for the quality
and durability. Heavy gold plated pieces are fairly durable with careful use.
Obviously the heavy gold plated pieces are more expensive than the regular
gold plated ones. 

Gold Vermeil
Gold Vermeil always uses sterling silver (925) as the base, with a
significantly thicker layer of gold (at least 2.5 microns or more). This gives
gold vermeil pieces a more durable finish and a richer, longer-lasting color.
While all jewelry will naturally show signs of wear over time, gold vermeil
tends to maintain its appearance when handled with care properly.

In Practice
Which material suits you best, depends on how you wear your jewelry.
If you love everyday pieces and want something that keeps its color longer,
gold vermeil is often a strong choice. If you enjoy changing styles or layering
multiple looks, (heavy) gold plated items can probably be a good option for
you.

Our Designs
Each design at Kósmo Atelier starts with a concept developed in-house. We
collaborate directly with the workshops and their designers, refining every
detail from start to finish. This process allows us to ensure that each piece
not only looks beautiful, but also feels balanced and wearable.
